Welcome to BADMINTON MUSEUM OF IRELAND.

Welcome to the last upload for 2018

The Historical Item displays the score sheet from the Programme for the Interprovincial Match between Munster and Leinster in 1944. It is interesting that this was a Senior Interprovincial in that it would have been shortly after this period that Munster stopped competing at the Senior level. The Match was played at Sarsfield Barracks Limerick the proceeds were In Aid of Soldiers’ Welfare Fund.

The Gallery Item shows the Irish and Welsh teams who played in 1957. It is easy to pick out the Irish players wearing blazers. I am not sure when the use of blazers was phased out. Presumably they were succeeded by tracksuits.

It has been an interesting year for the project with the Museum officially opened by Sue Peard in the middle of the year. We will be aiming to have the Museum open to the public more frequently in the new year. The visit from the Japanese Badminton Association was a very enjoyable occasion. This was followed by contact from the French Badminton Federation who displayed some of our material at their Open Championships.

We will be pleased to accept memorabilia on loan or by donation to enable us to progress our core function which is to preserve the heritage of Irish Badminton.
